Theme for 2012
The theme for the 2012 competition takes into consideration the current Socio-Economic Challenges in South Africa – therefore our theme is – Engineering a Better Life for Communities in South Africa.
Guidelines and Judging Criteria - 2012
The PneuDrive Challenge Competition uses some essential guidelines and judging criteria to assess and evaluate the strength and appropriateness of entries (refer to the Rules Document for more information:
* It is a design competition.
* For 2012, the design theme is tasked with considering and presenting solutions for the challenges South Africa faces in terms of housing, electricity, food, water, unemployment and education. Choose one topic and show how you could engineer a solution.
* It can be assumed that the government will provide power for the application at the source of where the solution will be used.
* Designs must use a combination of SEW Eurodrive and FESTO products and show how they can best be used in the application.
* The application must create interest and show the accuracy of the products.
* Use the project template found on this website for submissions. All presentations must be done in this format to ensure uniformity of entries.
* Refer to newsletters that are posted regularly and this website for tips, information and deadlines during the course of the competition.
Important Compulsory products to use in this year’s competition include:
* SEW Eurodrive Movidrive MDX61B
* SEW Eurodrive Geared Servo Motor
* The Festo DFPI Linear Acuator
Information and links to documentation on these products can be found on this website from 01 January 2012.

Does the design show innovation/competence/originality?
Was the functionality of the equipment tested?
How many different SEW and Festo products were used in the design?
What is the level of difficulty?
Is it a practical design?
Is the design technically accurate?
Documentation:
Was adequate effort put into the documentation?
Is the document without language and spelling mistakes?
Is the layout neat and logical?
